JustJOY Chicago-based indie pop rock phenomenon justJOY is in the process of releasing her debut album this summer, with its lead track "27 Club" currently taking the world by storm. Having played extensively throughout Chicago over the last year, her unique blend of indie pop with a rock edge feels both nostalgic and futuristic. With Tony Hish on drums, Nathan Cowan on lead guitar and Sam Stein on synth bass, justJOY's "glittery pop music that anyone can cry to" continues to leave bodies grooving and feelings rising. with: ktwheels , best described as a crunchy yet warm singer-songwriter navigating the indie rock space, is a new scene-setter currently based in frigid Chicago, Illinois. Originally from the Central Coast of California, ktwheels draws heavy inspiration from powerhouse female songwriters of the ‘90s, 2000s, and early 2010s, such as Madison Cunningham, Soccer Mommy, Courtney Barnett, Snail Mail, Dora Jar, and Fiona Apple. Driven by cool, syncopated riffs, she hopes to keep listeners on their toes while embracing them with the bittersweet sound of a Rust Belt palette. Bandcamp: https://ktwheels.bandcamp.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ktwheelsmusic/ Midamerican Elevator is a female-fronted project formed in 2020, rooted in close vocal harmony and a warm indie rock-folk sensibility. With a shared foothold in Virginia and strong ties to the Chicago indie scene, the band has played venues like Sleeping Village, Schubas, Empty Bottle, Subterranean, Reggie’s, and The Hideout, along with shows in Brooklyn, Boston, Baltimore, Charlotte, D.C., and Pittsburgh. Kneafsey is the solo project of Chicago musician Jimmy Drenovsky. Jimmy has been writing music for most of his life - he’s a dedicated student of songwriting who’s constantly processing and observing the world around him. He’s been the frontman of Chicago’s Motel Breakfast since 2016, but on his debut album as Kneafsey we find something more intimate. He and his producer Will Hansen (of Milwaukee’s Old Pup) present a carefully constructed batch of songs, written throughout Jimmy’s 20’s and recorded patiently over three years to tape. After Jimmy and Will completed the tracking, they brought in Ziyad Asrar (of Chicago band Whitney) to complete the mix and Ian Farmer (of Philly legends Modern Baseball and Slaughter Beach, Dog) to master. The resulting album, Sad Boy Blues, is a rich and layered introduction. The listener is invited into private conversations and gut-wrenching meditations on love, loss, and friendship. It’s vulnerable, earnest, open, and contains a surprising self-awareness, closing with levity by way of the title track, and hinting at a sense of humor influenced by the likes of John Prine and Adrianne Lenker.
