For over 30 years, Josh Davis has expressed his passion, taste, and values through the music he creates as DJ Shadow. The name alone evokes a high watermark for instrumental hip-hop and composition. From his first masterpiece Endtroducing…, to the genre-hopping UNKLE release Psyence Fiction, to the otherworldly elegance of The Private Press and its iconic single “Six Days,” to his underrated Bay Area celebration The Outsider, his work in the ’90s and first decade of the 2000s is as essential as it is hard to pin down. In the 2010s, Shadow released the sprawling The Less You Know, the Better, with its muscular forays into rock music, and followed with The Mountain Will Fall and Our Pathetic Age, both ambitious, risk-taking albums that featured collaborations with Run the Jewels, Nas, and De La Soul, among others. Most recently, he returned with Action Adventure, an introspective and cinematic project that reaffirmed his singular approach to sound. If there’s a single red thread across this career, it’s his restless ear-always searching to rescue some forgotten gem from the dustbin of music history or a fresh blast of sound from the cutting edge. It’s a practice Shadow learned as a young boy, enamored with collecting comic books,baseball cards, 12-inch records, and precious songs captured to cassette from the radio airwaves late at night in northern California. With great seriousness and love, he describes the second-hand transistor AM radio on which he first heard Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five’s “The Message” when he was 10 years old, and his mind-expanding encounter with Public Enemy’s “Rebel Without a Pause” and that single’s howling saxophone blast. At the heart of DJ Shadow’s musical project is deep listening. “I’m always trying to please or impress the most advanced listener,” he says-the type of aficionado who respects the layers upon layers of synths that go into making a sound that can’t be readily identified but makes you want to share it with a friend and say, “This part right here.” Rightly or wrongly, DJ Shadow has never been one to follow anyone else’s musical wants or desires but his own. His career remains a testament to constant evolution, curiosity, and an enduring belief in the art of sound. ABOUT the Endtroducing Tour: You heard right: for the first time EVER, Shadow is going to be playing a set focusing solely on his groundbreaking 1996 debut album, Endtroducing…. . He was ready to do it anyway, but the fact that Endtroducing is turning 30 years old made it a no-brainer.

As the Canadian musician behind Sunset Rubdown and Moonface, co-frontman of Wolf Parade, songwriting member of Swan Lake, and keyboardist for Frog Eyes and Fifths of Seven, Spencer Krug has been a major player on over twenty-five releases within the past two decades. He currently resides on Vancouver Island, continues to play with Wolf Parade and Sunset Rubdown, runs his own label called Pronounced Kroog, and writes, releases and performs a prolific amount of music under his own name, showcasing a mix of new and old material on stage. with local support from harpist Lily Breshears

From an early age, Booker T. Jones —“one of the legends of soul music” (The New Yorker)—was captivated by the magic of melody, rhythm, and harmony. So magnetic was the attraction, in fact, that by the time he turned sixteen, he was, incredibly, already a working musician with a hit song to his name. As part of the first house band for Stax Records, he formed the category-defining group Booker T. & the MGs, whose first recording, “Green Onions,” was an international sensation, selling more than one million copies and winning a place among Rolling Stone’s top five hundred songs of all time. Not stopping there, Jones continued to push soul music’s boundaries, refining it to its essence and then injecting it into the nation’s bloodstream. From midcentury Memphis, where the brutality of segregation was a stark backdrop to the loving, supportive family and community in which he was raised, to the creative hotbed of Beale Street, the Harlem of the South; from his early friendship with figures such as Maurice White (who went on to form Earth, Wind, and Fire) to the complicated dynamics of the racially mixed MGs—Jones not only was a witness to revolutions but also wrote their soundtracks. His musical legacy includes enduring compositions such as “Time Is Tight,” “Hip Hug-Her,” and the often sampled “Melting Pot” and collaborations with the likes of Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, and Sam and Dave—and later Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Barbra Streisand, Carlos Santana, and Willie Nelson. Nearly five decades later, Jones’s influence continues to help define the music industry, but only now is he ready to tell his remarkable life story. Time is Tight is the deeply moving account of how Jones balanced the brutality of the segregationist South with the loving support of his family and community, all while transforming a burgeoning studio into a musical mecca. Booker T. Jones is an American multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, record producer, and arranger. Best known as the front man of the band Booker T. & the MGs, he has worked with countless award-winning artists of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries and has earned a Grammy Award for Lifetime Achievement. Along with the band, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992. Jones continues to record and tour internationally, both as a solo artist and as head of Booker T.’s Stax Revue.
