The Minnesota-raised, Nashville-based songwriter has always felt like she was searching for herself, trying on various versions but never really feeling the euphoric ease that comes with finding comfort in one’s own skin.Through experimentation in spirituality and empowerment, devoting time and energy into her craft and learning to lean into a playful, carefree outlook, Wedl is experiencing the delicious life moments with a renewed clarity. On her self-titled album––and debut for ANTI––she shakes off the prying eyes of expectation, leaving behind the anxiety of forming yourself for others and welcoming in the delight of finally being exactly who you are. Wedl is already a prolific artist, releasing solo music since 2012, and co-founding the queercore outfit Dazey & The Scouts in 2015. The band, she says, taught her about “complete vulnerability and collaboration,” and their surprise viral success on social media fuelled the next stepping stone in Wedl’s career.“It’s shown me the humanity that live music can create,” she says of the unexpected attention on the band.“It’s taught me so much about songwriting as collective care.”After a string of solo singles in 2024, Wedl’s latest LP gathers those foundation-cracking moments that make up a life, and sees her fully immersed in the lessons they create. SUB*T Every musician starts off as a fan. Enthusiasm, fixation, denying all self-consciousness in pursuit of your own thrills…these are the values that propel ordinary people deep into fandom. For Grace Bennett and Jade Alcantara, that fervor also propelled their virtual 2010’s Twitter friendship into a band called Sub*T. What started as a cross-country online bond over stan culture—Bennett fighting for the honor of One Direction, Alcantara waving the banner of The 1975—led first to an Instagram follow, then to the mosh pit (where they met IRL several times a year), and eventually to a life-changing decision. In 2019 and with zero prior musical experience, they each bought guitars and taught themselves how to play, and Sub*T was born. While now a fully New York-based band, their sound is better defined by this origin story. Since meeting, Bennett and Alcantara have allowed themselves to be guided not by the pull of their surroundings and the pressure to be at the cutting edge, but by the force that first united them as teenagers on the internet: fandom. And on their debut LP How My Own Voice Sounds, they come into their own, riding the wave of their love for classic alt-rock, grunge, and indie rock and arriving at a place that’s decidedly their own.

Formed in late 2019 by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Sam Huge and keyboardist/producer Gaelle Souflet, the duo quickly carved their own space between heritage and modernity, between the shadows of Belgium’s electronic legacy and the urgent lightof the present moment. From the very beginning, their story was charged with paradoxes. Sam came from classical arts and archaeology, Gaelle from fashion design, worlds far removed from club basements. Comprising of Ben Hodge, Tom King, Regan Beazley, and Sam Barrett-Lennard, the Perth-based four-piece makes music for authentic connection. For movement, for feeling, and for being present.These are songs that push you to run outside and be a kid again, to fall in love, dance in your kitchen, take a spontaneous trip with mates, or lie in the grass doing nothing at all. This mission has resonated far beyond their Western Australian roots. Since the 2024 release of their ARIA-charting debut album Midnight Zoo, DICE has transformed from local indie-rock darlings into a high-velocity global export. FAI LACI “What can we do to get people off their fucking phones?” exclaims founder and frontman Luke Faillaci, explaining the mission behind Fai Laci, the band he founded and fronts. “And how can we give them something real and make them have a great time? That’s the most important thing we can do: Just communicate with our followers and let them know they fucking rule!” The Boston quintet — which also includes guitarists Anthony Cervone and Michael “Goldie” Goldblatt, bassist Cal Hamandi, and drummer Zack Putnam — have already amassed a grassroots fanbase thanks to their energetic, wildly cathartic live shows around the Northeast. Having recently caught the ear of American indie label Winspear, the band is readying their debut album and offering a taste of the new material with “I Know!”, a cathartic and buoyant debut single for their new label home. Revved up with gleaming, fuzzy guitars and energetic percussion, the new track blurs jangle pop, shoegaze, and alt-rock with tongue-in-cheek precision. The group met as teenagers in the early 2020s while playing in various projects around the Adelaide music scene and bonded over their love of 90s alternative, citing Pavement and Sonic Youth as early influences. They soon started writing music together and released their debut single in late 2023 and quickly returned with their debut EP, Oxalis, in mid-2024. The EP was well received, earning nods from Rolling Stone Australia and Triple J, and the band was soon moving out of local pub gigs and into big clubs, opening for international touring artists across the whole of Australia, and recently won the Emerging Artist & Best Performance award at SXSW Sydney for their charismatic live show. June McDoom’s debut full-length, Follow the Light, lives in that dream space and then keeps walking, slipping out of time and waking somewhere new, barely familiar enough to feel like home yet wholly your own. She came up in a Jamaican household on the edge of the Florida Everglades, an existence built of extended family, communal care, bass and harmonics. Her father, a carpenter and a student of sound, built his own speakers and kept three sound systems going across as many rooms. His low end would rise through her bedroom floor like some wayward cat while she lay above it with folk records, finding harmonies that were new and hers alone. Two musics in one room. L ushness as past and premonition. She found folk on her own, somewhere between the cast recording of The Sound of Music and Simon and Garfunkel, while everyone around her called it sleepy music. She did not mind being the only one. The solitude let her fall for harmony first, before words, before anything else, and harmony is still the thing she reaches for. LUTALO Lutalo’s highly visceral folk goes electric on The Academy, the Vermont multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer’s debut LP. On The Academy, Lutalo embraces a literary approach to self-referential songwriting, turning memories from their adolescence into impressionistic folk and rock compositions that are equal parts searing and vulnerable. With their unique baritone and finesse for lyrical world building, Lutalo cuts to the bone–while only just beginning to reveal the depth of their artistry and vision.

The quartet had lastbeen together in London’s Heathrow airport, having just played to sold out rooms across the UK. Their trajectory had been fast—in the span of two years and starting when they were just 16,BYOP released two albums (via Thurston Moore’s Ecstatic Peace in the US and XL Recordingsin the UK), found themselves magazine cover stars, and played to ravenous crowds around theworld. But the flame might have burned too quickly and they decided to call it quits. The quartet had been living in a pressure cooker—both to put on wild performances every nightand to keep up with the wild party lifestyle expected to come with their records. “You give abunch of teenagers some money and tell them to go on tour forever? It’s probably not thehealthiest thing,” guitarist Jonas Stein says. “I just felt like I could not maintain a healthy emotional status and craved stability.” Vocalist Jemina Pearl was facing her own layer of stress as the focal point of constant judgment and attention singing at the center of the stage—not to mention as the only woman in the group. “We were all under 21 and were partying our asses off all the time,” she says. “And I think people had this expectation that the Be Your Own Pet show was gonna be crazy. We needed to be that spectacle every single night, and it was a lot for us to take on.” 2023 finds Be Your Own Pet not only back with a new album, but stronger than ever before. Due August 25, Mommy bolsters the group’s patented garage punk ferocity with matured songwriting, inspired musicianship, and a fervor to claim their space and define their future. “I’m not your victim, I’m my own person/ I’m not some casualty, I set myself free,” Pearl roars on lead single “Hand Grenade”, propelled forward by a burst of guitar shrapnel from Stein and a time-bomb rhythm section courtesy of Vasquez and Eatherly. Born during the group’s first day of writing, the track is both a vicious rebuke of the sexism and abuse that pervades the music world and a steely refusal to be defined by it. “That song’s one of my little babies,” Pearl says. “By telling our stories and sharing our truth, we can gain power back from a situation where we felt powerless.” FARMER’S WIFE There is an intersection of dark fairy tales and anguished love, technological nightmares and horror show romance. Brooding squarely within that crossroads sits Austin’s Farmer’s Wife. Pulling from 90’s dirge rock, 60’s psych and occasionally 80’s nonchalance, their songs are reminiscent of classic early records from Smashing Pumpkins, Slowdive, and Hole as well as the pained imagery of 2000’s emo pioneers.
