Ripping guitars, a punchy horn section, and powerhouse vocals from Jackie Popovec that land somewhere between sweet soul and full-on fire. Their new album Trapdoor blends vintage pop rock with soul in a way that feels both classic and unpredictable. One minute it’s smoky and intimate, the next it’s exploding into something arena-sized. (Jessie Elizabeth to open the night). THE HOT TAKES — The Hot Takes continue to electrify audiences throughout the SF/Bay Area and beyond with their neon-drenched rock and Springsteen-esque energy. By uniting the familiar and future through anthemic songs and a dynamic live show, The Hot Takes promise to call you to the dance floor with your fist in the air. STRANGE CITIES — San Francisco post punk band Strange Cities' sound reflects the foggy, jagged, dystopian landscape that inspired their name. Whether stitching up pieces of a broken past or reflecting on an unknown future, their music skirts the fringe of noise and nihilism, melodic and melancholic, tragedies and trajectories. A post-post punk if you will.. LADY STARBEAST — Defying traditional genre and embodying idiosyncrasy, Oakland-based dark pop artists Ilana Magill and Marc Martell join forces to form the project Lady Starbeast. Ilana is the songwriter and vocalist; Marc creates the instrumentation; and together they record and produce. Ilana combines sultry, powerful vocals with operatic background harmonies, dark, eerie and intricate melodies and a wild, irreverent spirit. Her lyrical content explores the introspective particularities of mental health, while using a broad lens to remark on the human condition. Marc’s dramatic electro-pop instrumentation gives the listener a glimpse into the inner-workings of their minds and hearts, making for a raucous and haunting experience.
