Surplus 1980 fuses a fierce, muscular attack with experimental out-jazz and couples that with Staiano's playful lyrics, updating the angular rhythms of post-punk's old guard to a modern-day soundtrack of uneasy listening. With the final incarnation line-up presented, Surplus 1980 will perform selected songs for their final show before walking out the door for good. PATEKA — A four-piece experimental rock group from the San Francisco Bay Area, Pateka’s genre-bending songwriting style draws on the close-knit bond of childhood friends Elihu Knowles (keyboards/vocals), Dylan Ransley (guitar), Quinn Girard (bass) and Ryan Higley (drums). The band, which is based in Richmond, creates a unique blend of synthesized sounds, samples, off-kilter grooves, and expansive, jazz-influenced harmonies. Pateka’s sound has been compared to a variety of artists, including Palm, Badbadnotgood, Sweet Trip, Mid Air Thief, Jon Bap, Sun Ra, Pulgas, Os Mutantes and Standing on the Corner. MURDER MURDER — Murder Murder is a Bay Area-based organ of chaos and entropy led for two decades in a de facto manner by Paul Costuros (Death Sentence: Panda!/Total Shutdown/XBXRX) and generally featuring a bevy of unhinged freakazoids culled from the creme of the SF/Oakland art-punk-spuzz-weirdo-rock-free-jazz-noise scene. -Weasel Walter STRAWBERRY PANIC — Strawberry Panic is a San Francisco-based electroclash and punky electronic duo featuring members Wylie Buzzard and Darcy Dinner.
