Bbymutha Before rapper and vocalist Bbymutha broke out with her 2017 viral hit “Rules” she has spent the years since building one of the most distinctive catalogs in Southern rap. She is one of underground hip hop’s most daring and admired talents in the last decade. Her sharp + provocative lyrics (openly sexual, feminist, & positive) are expertly wrapped-around beats that are typically endemic to experimental and electronic corners of the internet. The result is a soundscape all her own—a slow, ice-cool Chattanooga drawl rapping through the distorted and progressive production — earning her spot on Pitchfork’s 10 Rappers to Watch, Vibe’s Best Female Rap Albums, Pitchfork’s Best Rap Albums, and FACT Mag’s Rappers to Watch, over the last few years. Cherele True to her roots, Cherele’s sound draws influence from Southern rap but filtered through an art-school dropout imagination. Cherele blends sharp lyricism, undeniable charisma, and left-of-center production into a sound that moves effortlessly between hard-hitting slaps and introspective storytelling. Unafraid of experimentation, she has carved out a lane entirely her own. She is shooting her next music video and recording a new album this August, to be released in September.
