Minty Boi Presents: Poptropicaslutz! Live in Los Angeles El Cid 6pm Doors / All Ages About: poptropicaslutz!, the Long Island-born, LA-based duo of Nick Crawford and Christian Cicilia blend SoundCloud rap, hyperpop, and pop-punk into a genre-bending sound that pulls from the music they grew up on in the 2000s and the scene they helped build in the 2020s. Rising off early SoundCloud traction, they built a cult following and a seedy NY pandemic scene for local kids. Early tracks like “Hollywood High 16” and “I MISS 2007” channel the soundcloud rap emo pop-punk that shaped them, while songs like “Grandma Got Run Over By A Lawnmower” and “watercolor puddles” showcase their work as contemporaries in New York’s pandemic hyperpop scene, culminating in their 2022 project “just in case the world ends.” Their latest album, the new 925, marks a shift in sound, trading their early NY hyperpunk for a sardonic Southern Californian electroclash, highlighted by the viral hit “superbad” which blends post-hyperpop and electronic pop with electronic rap.
